Darfur Pictures

Darfur is an area in the western region of Sudan that is the site of a possible genocidal war.  Most believe that the Sudanese government and the Janjaweed are currently killing over 675,000 people in the Darfur region.  Here are some of the issue with the Darfur conflict, as told through pictures.

Darfur is a western region of Sudan that has been plauged by violence since February, 2003.

 

Many people have been displaced into refugee camps throughout Sudan, where disease and hunger are widespread issues.

 

The Sudanese government and the Janjaweed, a militia group from northern Sudan, used a scorched earth policy, where they burn down everything after going through.

 

Disease runs rampant in the refugee camps as well as the rest of the region.  The camps are one of the few places people can get somewhat modern medical treatment.

 

An estimated 675,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

 

Many bodies are not even given a burial.

 

The conflict is spreading into neighboring Chad, which is only making the violence worse.
